First Things First: What Even Is CUET?

The Golden Rule: Know What You’re Applying For
This is a weirdly ignored part of CUET prep—understanding the courses and universities you’re targeting. It’s not just about scoring high in any random subject. You need to know:
- What subjects are required for your course?
- What’s the weightage split (if any)?
- Does your dream college/university require General Test? (some do, some don’t)
- Is there a language test mandatory?
For example, if you’re going for BA English at Delhi University, you might need English + 2 best domain subjects + maybe the General Test, depending on the college.
Tip: Go to the websites of the universities you’re applying for and check their CUET requirements. It’s boring, yes, but it’ll save you from that “oh crap” moment in May.
Build Your Subject-Wise Prep Plan (Without Crying)
Here’s where it gets juicy — actual prep strategies that don’t feel like you’re in an IAS coaching center.
Domain Subjects
Pick your top 2–3 domain subjects based on your course. Most of these are based on NCERT Class 12 books. So if you’ve paid any attention in school, you’re already halfway there.
Tips that actually work:
- Use NCERT as your Bible. CUET rarely asks questions outside this.
- Solve MCQ-based questions after each chapter — not 50 at once, but maybe 5–10 daily.
- Try Oswal or Arihant for CUET domain books — not too overwhelming.
- Make a dumbed-down formula sheet or summary page per chapter. Make it funny if needed so you’ll remember it. (I once wrote “Photosynthesis = plant buffet powered by sunlight” — never forgot it.)
And if you’re a procrastinator (welcome to the club), set goals like “Finish one chapter of Business Studies before I open Instagram again.”
General Test (GT)
This one’s tricky because it feels a bit random — it has Quant, Reasoning, General Knowledge, and Current Affairs. Basically a mini-SAT with a sprinkle of GK.
Here’s how to survive it:
- For Quant, focus on basic arithmetic — percentages, ratios, averages. Think Class 9–10 level.
- Logical Reasoning? Just solve 5–10 puzzles a day. You can find free PDFs, apps, or even those cool Instagram pages that post riddles.
- For Current Affairs — don’t just read newspapers (unless you enjoy that). Try “Daily Current Affairs” YouTube videos or Instagram pages that do monthly roundups.

The General Test is often the deal-breaker — especially in popular courses. So don’t ignore it thinking it’s “common sense”. It’s not.
Language Test
If you’re giving English or any other language test — yes, CUET has them — it’s mostly comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and a bit of flair.
What works:
- Read editorials from The Hindu or Indian Express — not the whole paper, just the opinion pages.
- Learn 5–10 new words per day. Apps like Knudge.me help (plus they look cool on your phone).
- Practice comprehension passages from CUET mock tests — timing is key.
- Grammar? Brush up on the basics — tenses, prepositions, subject-verb agreement.
- Figure of speech? Honestly, just memorize the common ones. No shame.

How to Make a Study Plan That You’ll Actually Stick To

“Should I join a coaching center?” is like asking “Should I gym or do home workouts?” — depends on your discipline.
Coaching helps if:
- You can’t stay consistent alone
- You want structured doubt-clearing
- Peer pressure motivates you
But self-study works if:
- You’re a lone wolf (respect)
- You’ve got solid school teachers
- You don’t want to spend 30K+ on weekend classes

Social Media Noise: Block or Browse?
CUET 2025 is all over X (Twitter), Instagram, Telegram, Reddit, Quora — and it’s a double-edged sword.
Some posts will give you actual question predictions or paper analysis. Others will make you feel like you’re 5 years behind prep-wise.
If it helps: Most of those “I study 14 hours a day” people are lying. Or they’re burnt out and pretending. Focus on your pace, not their drama.
Mock Tests: Your Real Best Friend
Might sound obvious, but too many people avoid mocks because “I’m not ready yet.” The truth? You’ll never feel ready.
Start taking full-length mocks once a week after your basic prep is done. Increase to 2–3/week by March 2025.
Benefits:
- You’ll learn time management
- You’ll identify your weak zones
- You’ll stop panicking during the actual exam
Bonus: Try to take a mock test at the same time as your actual CUET slot (morning or afternoon). Your brain gets trained to focus during that time.
Exam Day: Don’t Do Dumb Things
Here’s a checklist from seniors who messed up (and admitted it):
- Sleep properly the night before. Not “3 hours with Red Bull”.
- Don’t experiment with new food on exam day. You don’t want surprise stomach issues.
- Bring your admit card, ID proof, extra pens (yes, even for CBT), water, and a chill mindset.
- Leave early. Google Maps is not God — there’s always traffic.
- During the paper: don’t overthink. First instincts are often right.
